preface: i love bedtime stories. i always ask my mother or father or my sister to read them for me. i read and i read until there is no more stories i can read. then i read the folklore stories. that's when i realise so many stories can be told to other people regardless of who thy are. therefore, i made this made up child stories to be told (another reason...i have no idea!!!). please enjoy it.
The Brave Rabbit
once upon a time, there is a rabbit. he jump near the river to find the easy path to drink. unfortunately, he falls into the river.he cries for help but no animals could save him. still, he keep on cried for help. and finally, he saved by a young boy who just walk by the river.
when the rabbit is inside the boy's hand, he though that it is the end for his life because he always believe human is a wicked, cunning and fearful creature.
however, the boy let him go. the rabbit jumps away as fast as he can to save his life. but the rabbit turned his back to see if the boy follws him. the boy just wave his hand. he just keep jumping until he sees the boy no more.
after he gets back to his home that he knew that boy is an errand child who always do the errand and walk from another village to another village through the river. that is when the rabbit began to think human is not all that bad.
not long after that, the rabbit heard that the errand boy is seen no more near the river. many animals does not care about it except the rabbit. the rabbit tries to go to the nearby village to find the boy. but he doesn't know know how to find the boy so he asked the cow.
"dear mr. cow, do you know the boy who always walk near the river?" ask the rabbit.
"there are so many boy who always walk near the river. i don't know which one you are talking about" said the cow.
the rabbit go away and ask the horse.
"dear mr. horse, do you know any boy who walk near the river?" ask the rabbit.
"no i don't know. there are too many boys in this village. i don't know which one you are talking about." said the horse.
the rabbit go away and try to find another animal.suddenly, dog chase him. the rabbit tries to run away from the dog. however, the dog finally cornered him and catch him with his teeth.
"please let me go, mr. dog. i cannot die now." say the rabbit.
"no i cannot let you go. you can be a fine dinner to cure my master." said the dog.
the rabbit try to struggle, but the dog bite his body but not hurt the rabbit, just make the rabbit cannot move. the dog move to his master house and bring the rabbit to his master.
what a surprise to rabbit, the master of this dog is the boy who he want to help. the boy is lying on his bed and he looks so weak.
"are you the little one who i help you before? i'm sorry for my dog. he just want to cure me. let him go, buddy." said the boy.
"thank you for letting me go. you have help me so much. please let me do something for you." said the rabbit.
the boy just smile. "it's alright, you don't need to help me."
"why?" said the rabbit.
"it is impossible even for me to help my master. what can you, who weaker and smaller than me can do?" said the dog.
"what do you mean?" the rabbit now is full of curiosity.
"my master can be cured if he can eat a soup of special herb that grows near the green forest." said the dog.
"you mean, the forest that mr. tiger lives right now?" ask the rabbit.
"yes. and that is why i thought it can be replaced with the rabbit soup. but master just let you go." said the dog.
"silent, buddy." said the boy. the dog stop speak.
"let me help you! i can go and take the herbs for you!" said the rabbit.
"what about the tiger? it is really dangerous, you know." the boy look at the rabbit worriedly.
"don't worry, the tiger won't eat me because i am too small. trust in me." said the rabbit and he go away from the house and with all his might, he jump as fast as he can to the green forest.
the boy, who lying on his bed, worry for the rabbit, but he cannot help him and neither his dog. " i hope mother come back early, the rabbit wouldn't have to help me that way.". the dog just lying near his bed and whimpering.
the rabbit finally arrived at the green forest. he ask the sparrow to know where the herbs that he wants to find."dear mr. sparrow, do you know where is the herb?"
the sparrow replied "i don't know. ask the tiger. ask the tiger.". the rabbit hesitant to ask the tiger and ask the squirrel "dear mr. squirrel, do you know where is the herb?"
the squirrel replied "i don't know. ask the tiger. ask the tiger.". again, the rabbit hesitant to ask the tiger and ask the sloth "dear mr. sloth, do you know where is the herb?".
the sloth replied "just go to the tiger. he knows it. he knows it.". this time, the rabbit does not have any choice but go to ask the tiger.
"mr. tiger, do you know where is the herb?" the rabbit ask while trying to believe he will be fine.
"why do you ask? don't you scared of me?" ask the tiger.
"i want to repay the kindness of the boy who saved my life." reply the rabbit.
"how brave of you! you are very lucky rabbit. i had my fill before you even come. go to this direction, and you will find the herb. take as much as you want but be careful of the wicked hunter, even i cannot help you if you meet him." said the tiger.
"thank you very much mr. tiger!" said the rabbit and he continue his journey.
the rabbit found the herb. he wrap the herb around himself and go back to the village to help the boy.
unfortunately, the rabbit get caught of the wicked hunter! he struggle from the wicked hunter but it does not budge!
"i can make a fine gold if i sell this wrapping-herb-rabbit by telling them this is a magical creature." said the wicked hunter. he put the rabbit into the cage and went back to the village with his other merchandise.
when the wicked hunter goes to the village, he shout "ladies and gentlemen! i have a magical creature that is really special! come and look at it!".
the villager astonished with the rabbit that wrap himself around with the herbs and they try to buy the rabbit.
"i buy it with 10 copper coins!"
"no, i buy it with 10 silver coins!"
"no, i buy it with 10 gold coins!"
the wicked hunter is very pleased with the villager reaction. the rabbit is angry and shout "do not be fooled, human! i am not a magical creature! i am a rabbit! let me go now!".
the villager was surprise. and they mad at the hunter for fooling them around. the villager chase out the wicked hunter.
the rabbit tries to get out from the cage but he cannot get out from it. at the same time, the mother of the boy couldn't find the herb to help her son. she walking sadly and wondering what she could do.
the rabbit cried for help and the cried heard by the mother. she help him get out from the cage.
"What a surprise! the rabbit is wrap with full of herbs! can you give me some to help my son?" said the mother.
"is your son the one who always walk near the river?" ask the rabbit.
"yes, he work as an errand boy from this village to another village." said the mother.
"then, bring me to him. he's the one that i want to give the herb." said the rabbit.
the mother hurried to his son. the boy is surprised with the rabbit and the rabbit said "i told you i can do this, right?"
the mother unwrap the rabbit and take the herb to make a soup out of it. the boy drink down the soup and becoming much better.the dog is happy. the mother is happy. the boy is happy and said "i don't know how i can pay you. you save my life."
"I'm the one who should said that. now i can go back home with a happy face." said the rabbit.
the rabbit go back to his home happily.
years later, the boy who has grown up tells his stories of how brave the rabbit that saves his life.
